Zubizuri Bridge
The Zubizuri Bridge ( White bridge in basque) was designed by the famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The suspension structure of the footbridge crosses the Nervion river, close to the renowned Guggenheim Museum . Since it was inaugurated in 1997, the light glass brick design of the Zubizuri Bridge has become one of the best known landmarks of Bilbao.
Puente Viejo de Balmaseda de Bilbao Balmaseda, 48800
The Puente Viejo (old bridge) is crossed by the river Cadagua, in the town of Balmaseda, which is located some 30 kilometers from Bilbao . This bridge is one eye-catching site. This was built in the 12th century, positioned in the core of the historical division of the area. Being the best known of the four bridges that cross the town, its distinctive, hump-shaped profile with three curves equipped with bell towers, is undeniably the best-known icon of this Vizcayan town. The image of the bridge is even featured on the Viscayan coat of arms.
This town bridge with medieval beginnings was originally built for economic purposes, particularly for collection of taxes.
Puente de San Antón Iglesia de San Anton Bilbao, 48005
The Puente de San Antón was, for many years, the only bridge to serve the merchants of the city of Bilbao . The frequent water overflows in the city led to the consecutive restructurings that were much called for. The ancient image of the bridge was preserved until the end of the 19th century. At present, the bridge has a minor resemblance to the one honored in the city s coat of arms. However, a new bridge was built to accommodate the continually escalating problem of traffic.
