Fortresses

Castillo de Butrón Playas de Gorliz Gatika, 48110 Tel: +34 94 6151110

This fortress is a 13 th century French-inspired gothic structure situated in the municipality of Gatika. It is around 20 kilometers from Bilbao , in proximity to the beaches of Gorliz and Plencia . It is bordered by a huge recreational area sizing up to 45,000 meters squared.
The imposing citadel placed on top of the foremost gateway is an eye-catcher. It has a slate top completed with a fusion of zinc weather vanes and fortifications, bordered by four smaller cone-shaped towers.
This stunning edifice presents the sightseers with audio-visual orientation, including graphic illustrations of the castle's medieval historical account. Furthermore, re-enactments of the personalities and everyday scenes of the day are also presented.

Castillo de Muñatones Municipalite de San Martin Muskiz , 48550

Located in the San Martín district of the Muskiz municipality, this rustic fortress has a medieval armed forces approach of construction. The Muñatones Castle was acknowledged as a historic and artistic shrine in 1944. Restoration was done four years later when it was obtained by the Statutory Deputation of Vizcaya . The castle's image matches up primarily with that of a medieval fortress occupied through its beginnings by the Muñatones family and later by the Salazars . Bordered by grassland and swamps, the hallmark of this castle that makes it stand out is the peripheral fortification, built in with walls whose crucial function was defensive in nature. Today however, this tower is in ruined condition, yet still stands solid with 75 meters high and 3 meter thick of enduring wall.
