This is the most recent Gothic structure in Bilbao , constructed in the 16 th century. It is situated in one of the most prominent vicinities, the Barrio de Deusto . Its most noteworthy feature is the foremost pedestal, designed in Renaissance style. Throughout the centuries, it has undergone modifications to make it blend with its environs.

La Alhondiga , with Catalan modernist influence, is one of the most archetypal and well-liked structures in Bilbao . It was built in 1906 by the architect Ricardo Bastida . This outstanding formation was one of the first flat-roofed buildings in the municipality. This building was likewise used by many traders as a warehouse for a number of years. Currently it is being developed into a cultural and leisure center.

This place was designed with the ingenuity of architect Luis Mara Gana way back in 1962, and unmistakably displays neo-Mudejar architecture. This huge bullring can accommodate an audience of 15,000. It was damaged by a fire in 1961 but was later on fully refurbished into the showground that we witness at present. Within the arena there is also a museum called Museo Taurino , which happens to have a remarkable collection of costumes, bullfighters' armaments, relics and old posters.
This place is infamous for being very tough with its bullfighters and animals. The arena comes alive in the month of March and the activities conclude at the end of September or beginning of October. The Plaza arrives at its highest point during the Semana Grande and Bilboan fiestas. During these festivals, the best fighters and finest bulls bred in Spain put together an outstanding demonstration that captivates the huge public who fills up the plaza each day.

Mercado Antiguo which means old market, is positioned in the famous Castaños district, just at the rear of the striking Campo Volantín and on one of the corner turns in Plaza de Funicular's . One of the assets of this interesting market is its frontage that simply stands - a perfect combination of brick and tile works. This was constructed by Ricardo Bastida in 1910 and evidently with a modernist approach. The market that we see today was actually once a wash-house. In the earlier times, it was untypical for the residences to have running water, and hence, there were many wash-houses in the villages. In Bilbao , next to the Castaños market, there is one that remains standing in the Calle Alameda San Mamés . It was built by the same architect in 1905, having similar Catalan modernist distinctiveness. With the coming and going of people going about with their shopping, this historic structure surely is a spot for hectic business activities on a daily basis. It is a building that continues to be an emblem of the district.

La Fuente del Perro (the Dog Fountain) is one of the most interesting spots in Casco Viejo (old Quarter). This extraordinary and stunning water spout got its name from the likeness of the three small lions that embellish its spouts abide to dogs. The street from where the fountain situated is also named after it. Preserved as one of the countless fountains customarily brought into being in this urban centre, The calle Perro ( Perro Street), one of the most typical "poteo" (social wine drinking) areas in Bilbao, has a commemorative inscription showing the level the water reached when the estuary flooded in 1983.

In close proximity to the town of Gernika and some 37 kilometers from Bilbao , there is a piece of the olden times belonging to the Magdalenian age, dating back some 13,000 years. The Caves of Santimamiñe near the Basque sculptor Ibarrola's famous Painted Wood , are situated in the western vertical of Mount Ereñusaña and were discovered by a group of children in 1917. Considered the most significant example of rock painting in the Basque Country, it shows human presence during the oldest phase of conventional periodization. The greater part of the discoveries in these caverns belongs to the Magdalenian period, and the pictures are mostly of animals such as the bison, and equipments made out of bones which are adorned with uncomplicated stroke amalgamations. They are perfectly preserved and can be seen free of charge and with a guide throughout the week.

Calzadas de Mallona Bilbao, 48006
From Plaza de Unamuno, people can get to the Begoña Basilica by passing through the smooth avenues o Mallona, more known as Las Calzadas de Mallona. This road is an indispensable element for the celebration of the Day of the Virgin (15 August) when thousands of people flock the shrine of the basilica.
The walk begins through these famous streets through which in olden days the general public strides to make procession every May 2nd in order to remember the deaths of those who safeguarded the town during the Siege of Bilbao . At the apex of Las Calzadas , the gateway of what was Bilbao's graveyard in the nineteenth century still stands.
