Stations and Stadiums

Estación de Atxuri Travesía del 16 de Agosto, 6-8 Bilbao, 48006 Tel: +34 902543210

The Atxuri station is adjacent to the San Antón bridge and church. The station is located, from which one can travel to San Sebastián, Durango or Bermeo, among other destinations. It is also close to the formerly aged Hospital de Atxuri (a building in the neo-classical style which today houses the Escuela de Artes y Oficios, and the Grupo Escolar del Maestro García Ribero).
This train station was built in 1912 by the architect Manuel María de Smith. It is famous for its amalgamation of Basque and highland structural design. The main eye catchers are the windows and the tower. The station is a structure that combines the first floor arches with the less prominent ones above.

Estación de Ferrocarriles de Santander Bailén, 2 Bilbao, 48003 Tel: +34 94 4232266

Positioned just across the Arriaga theatre , the Santander Railway Station is one of the ostensible infrastructures of the Ensanche plan. It is a train station on the bank of the river and was made possible in Bilbao at the verge of the 19th century. It certainly helped turn the city into a place of fascinating contrasts where the old (Casco Viejo) met with the new (El Ensanche - suburban development).
The general plan of this train station was calculated by the engineer Valentín Gorbeña . Many years later, the architect Severino Achúcarro designed the main facade. This station is considered as modern with art nouveau works. It is an interesting work of art, with the station situated top of a hall which is crossed by a viaduct. It is a structure inspired by the first English stations of the time. This station was opened in 1902.
Subjected to various cuts and blows,
with which the most recent was embarked on by the architect Yago Bonet Correa , the recovery of the authentic attributes has been wanted, as well as the assimilation of new-fangled conveniences such as the exhibition hall and cafeteria positioned in the reception area.

Estadio de fútbol de San Mamés Luis Briñas, s/n Bilbao, 48013 Tel: +34 94 4240877

This stadium was opened on August 21, 1913 showing a tight competition between the Bilbaoan team and Irún Racing. The San Mamés ground is to be found in Bilbao's uptown expansion, Ensanche . This stadium is very near to the edifice recognized as " La Feria Internacional de Muestras de Bilbao".

This stadium can accommodate up to 40,000 spectators, especially during premier match ups. The entire audience certainly expects victory for the respective team that they are supporting. The stadium is a technologically extraordinary structure whose majestic arch has turned out to be one of the most recognized among the emblems of the city.
